re:MADE Stores
New Focus - re:MADE Stores create retail spaces that utilize artists and volunteers to connect with people through repurposing and resale. New Focus - re:MADE Stores work to connect and mentor people, often times helping those with barriers to employment as they learn to make a product that can be resold and they can earn extra income or maybe start their own small business.
In 2015, New Focus - re:MADE Stores started the pilot store, a nonprofit in Anchorage, Alaska called Anchorage re:MADE, to empower people and repurpose items that formerly went to the landfill. Jenny Forner and Patti Buist established Anchorage re:MADE, which was a 17,000 sq ft resale retail facility, with a cafe, classrooms and workroom, it had 100% volunteer staff.
In 2017, New Focus - re:MADE Stores expanded replication of this model in other states. A re:MADE Store is another tool for churches to use to empower people and help their dreams come true and where community can be built with people from different socioeconomically groups and cultures.
We are excited to see where this will grow. If you would like more information please email: [email protected].
