"How's that working out?"
Are you writing checks, giving out food and clothing
without seeing people move out of poverty?
Would you like to offer hope and change to people in need?
The New Focus Philosophy of Getting, Gaining, Growing, and Giving
gives you a system to offer hope to people and the opportunity of change. The popular way is for people to be stuck in the Getting phase….they get food, clothing, free meals or benevolence funds without having to do anything. When a call comes into a church or organization that is facilitating change in people’s lives, the question is asked “Are you looking for a check, food, etc. or are you looking for a way to change your situation? Our experience is that 50% of the calls are just wanting to get what they can, with no responsibility on their part.
If they are looking for a check, we tell them “we probably are not what you are looking for, but if you ever what to make changes in your life, give us a call, we meet weekly.”
The church establishes a way to test people’s heart. New Focus has the tools to invite people to an Intro Class to see if what your church has to offer is what the person is looking for. When people come, we give them a free bag of paper supplies, laundry soap and personal care items (things they cannot get with food stamps) and invite them to join New Focus.
They come and hear how they can join a 6 weeks “Steps to Change” class and decide what they want to change in their situation. The 6 weeks include:
1. Admit Where I am
2. Believe Things Can Change
3. Change is Difficult
4. Effort Will Be High
5. Disciple Required
6. Freedom Will Come
7. God Will Get the Glory.
Once they complete this they attend another 6 weeks of “Steps to Financial Freedom” and are assigned a financial coach.
The meeting night consists of 15 minutes “Pass, Pray or Share”, 30 minutes lesson time and 30 - 45 minutes with a financial coach. Child Care must be provided. Many churches do this on their weekly Family Night.
New Focus has trained over 200 churches in 34 states and 21 denominations to move people from getting to gaining, to growing to giving. What a joy to see people who received now being givers and helping others who are asking for help.
